December 2021

Dear all,

Welcome to the fourth and final PSCI newsletter of 2021 and my last one as Chair. When I took up the role early last year, I think we’d all hoped that 2021 would be a more stable year than 2020. I’m not sure if we can say that this was truly the case, but I’m pleased that the PSCI continued to progress with our mission despite the continued, challenging circumstances in which our members and suppliers found themselves.

And despite these challenges, it has been another impactful year for the PSCI. We launched our new three-year strategy, reached our highest number of attendees even through our Virtual Supplier Conferences, have growing membership interest from Indian and Chinese companies, and formed new partnerships and pledges to support the State Government of Telangana’s Musi River Revitalization Initiative.

It has been a privilege and honor to act as Chair this past year and I look forward to working with the incoming Chair, Vicki Stone-Bjarup at Novo Nordisk, and our new Board members to continue to drive the PSCI agenda forward. I would like to thank wholeheartedly all my incredible board colleagues, Carnstone team, Leads, Co-Leads and members of the workstreams and Topic Teams for their huge energy, support and contribution.

Have a wonderful winter holiday season and some well-earned time with family and friends.

Best wishes,

MANJIT SINGH
PSCI Chair and Associate Director of Corporate Sustainability at Centrient Pharmaceuticals

AGM Summary
2021 AGM

We held our 2021 AGM in early November, welcoming 160 individuals from 45 of our member companies and partners. We enjoyed a stimulating keynote from Namita Nair, VP ESG Research at MSCI, heard the latest updates from our Committees, held a workshop on responsible procurement practices, and met old friends and new through virtual drinks and 124 1:1 networking sessions. Finally, we announced our new fee structure for 2022 and welcomed our incoming Board members. You can read more about the AGM and watch recordings of all the sessions here.

We’ve already begun planning the Spring Meeting and want your views on physical and virtual event options. Take our survey here.

Engagement Dashboard

As announced at the AGM, the Engagement Dashboard is now embedded into The Link. You can find it here.
The dashboard gives visibility over membership requirements and engagement, e.g. basic requirements, audits shared, committee memberships, self-reported maturity. You can used it to track your own company's information and compare yourself to peers.

Help Needed! Have you translated the SAQ Template into other languages?

Recently, the Audit Committee has received member requests for SAQ translations to other languages, including Russian. As a response to this, the Committee would like your help to please share the SAQ translations that your organization or suppliers are using, if permitted. (Excluding English, Chinese, and Japanese translations as they are already available)

Following that, the Committee will call for volunteers to cross-check the translations and refresh them to be in line with the most updated versions. The final versions will be uploaded to the Link as a resource accessible to all PSCI members and suppliers.

If you have SAQ translations in, for example, Spanish, German or Russian, please send it over to the Secretariat.

Call for Member Feedback: Complete the Audit Surveys

The Audit Committee is requesting Members to give feedback on audits on the Link. The PSCI Audit Committee has developed two surveys, the sponsor feedback survey and the member (viewer) feedback survey, on the Link to help us collect feedback from PSCI members.

The sponsor feedback survey is for audit sponsors to submit their feedback on their experience in working with the 3rd-party auditors and audit quality and the member (viewer) feedback survey is for members to submit feedback on audit quality for those audits conducted by 3rd-party audit firms (i.e. non-PSCI member companies) that are not sponsored by them but are shared with them to view.

Results of these surveys will feed into the audit firm management process conducted by the Auditor Training sub-team under the Audit Committee.

Supplier Updates

The Principles E-Learning Tool

We are currently revising the Principles E-Learning tool to reflect the updates to the PSCI principles and it will be back online before Christmas. In the meantime, this PSCI principles video (subtitled) would be a good learning resource to get up to speed with the Principles.

Virtual Supplier Conferences

Throughout the month of September, we held our increasingly popular Virtual Supplier Conferences in China and India.

2277 people from 264 sites attended the 2021 China Supplier Conference, showing a 24% increase compared to last year. The highest-rated sessions at the Conference were:

  • Pharma wastewater API testing
  • Practices to achieve carbon reduction targets + CSR reporting regarding emission reduction
  • Local government regulations and best practices around hot work and confined space

The 2021 India Supplier Conference was attended by 1363 people from 120 companies, showing a 21% increase compared to last year. Audience feedback reported that ‘Day 2 event had the most useful sessions’ and Day 3 sessions were the most interesting, ‘the Human Right Due Diligence session was highly engaging’.

In lieu of gifts for speakers, small donations were made on behalf of the PSCI to the Han Hong Love Charity Foundation to support families affected by Alzheimer’s in China and the OSCAR Foundation to support vaccination work in Mumbai slums in India.

Reminder - Anti-bribery Corruption Report

Regulations around anti-bribery and corruption (ABC) has been tightened and stakeholder expectations have increased. The PSCI wants to encourage and support members and suppliers to continually enhance their anti‐corruption program for compliance with the latest guidelines issued by different regulatory authorities around the globe. As a result, we commissioned an external benchmark on ABC standards and trends in the supply chain. Download it today to help strengthen your own risk practices.
