Deirdre O'Reilly
As Global EHS and Business Development Lead of Supplier Operations at Viatris, Deirdre safeguards Viatris supply chain by minimizing risk from a business continuity, liability, and reputational perspective.
Deirdre drives the EHS programme to ensure risks are understood at a strategic and operational level within Viatris. She ensures supplier’s sustainability compliance and risk management by partnering with Corporate Social Responsibility, Global Sourcing and Supply Chain.
She has over 24 years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry having started her career with the Health & Safety Authority of Ireland and spent 20 years with Pfizer in various leadership responsibilities across site operations, EHS, Supply Chain, Technical Product Transfers, before establishing Pfizer’s EHS Global Supplier Operations Team. She moved to Upjohn, a division of Pfizer in 2019, where she headed up their EHS Supplier Operations and business development function prior to transferring to Viatris in 2020.
Deirdre holds a PhD in Commerce from University College Cork (UCC) & London Business School of Economics, an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from UCC, and a BSc in Biological Sciences from UCC. Deirdre is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety.
On a personal level, from the start, I recognised the value of PSCI and the need for greater collaborative effort as we endeavoured to understand risk across our supply chains. I was then and still am a firm believer in the collective power of the Pharma industry functioning as ‘one voice’ in influencing EHS and L&E standards across the industry. Using the PSCI framework and embedding the PSCI principles in our supplier audit programme has been instrumental to my role of securing and maintaining responsible suppliers. The PSCI principles promote the right behaviours and procurement practices in our organisation helping to drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.
I consider myself a visionary person, striving to turn aspirations into reality. I continue to commit to PSCI Vision of establishing and promoting excellent responsible practices to continuously improve social, health, safety, and environmentally sustainable outcomes for our supply chains.
