PSCI Webinar: Dust Hazard Assessment and Controls in the Pharma Industry

Webinar | 7 Aug 2025 15:00–16:30 Kolkata

Understanding dust hazard, assessment and control measures to enhance people and plant safety. In pharmaceutical manufacturing, dust is not just a housekeeping issue — it is a serious safety concern. Many active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients are combustible when finely powdered. If these dusts accumulate or are dispersed in the air, they can pose a significant explosion hazard with serious risk to life and property. Based on of review of the health & safety findings from 180 PSCI audits in 2023, 22% findings were related to Process safety, including explosion risk.

Dust Hazard Assessment, or DHA, is a systematic approach to identifying and mitigating these risks. This webinar will help you gain a better understanding of dust hazard, assessment, and control measures to protect your people and facility from potentially catastrophic explosions and to meeting regulatory and industry safety standards. The following topics will be covered during the webinar:

  • Key definitions
  • Conditions for fire / explosion
  • Chemical flammability properties
  • Typical Ignition Sources
  • Control of flammable atmospheres
  • Dust Hazard Assessment (DHA)
  • Key safety measures to mitigate dust hazard

Suggested Audience: PSCI Suppliers and PSCI members. HSE, Process Safety, Quality and Operations personnel will benefit from attending this webinar
